Birding Highlights around Madagascar

This tour will take you through the most famous national parks and reserves where you will see many of Madagascar’s endemic birds. You will be accompanied by an experienced driver guide throughout the trip. First, you will drive along the national road (RN) 4 where the national park of Ankarafantsika is awaiting with outstanding birds.  After that you will head East along the RN 7 where you will discover Ranomafana, Anja park, Isalo national park, Zombitse national park, Reniala reserve and the Tsimanapetsotsa national park. This journey offers a wonderful opportunity to discover Madagascar’s unique birdlife, including rare species such as the Madagascar Fish Eagle, Van Dam’s Vanga and Appert’s Tetraka. Along the way, colourful Ground Rollers, Asities, Vangas and flamingos make every stop a memorable birdwatching experience.After visiting all these national parks you will fly back to the capital to catch your international flight back home.

Day 1 : Arrival in Antananarivo and transfer to your accommodation

Day 2 : Drive from Antananarivo to Ankarafantsika 

Day 3 : Ankarafantsika national park : Discover some diurnal and nocturnal birds such as : Madagascar Scops Owl, Madagascar fish Eagle and Vam Dam’s Vanga

Day 4 : Leave Ankarafantsika and drive back to Antananarivo

Day 5 : Antananarivo to Andasibe : Here, a night walk to the VOI reserve is already possible

Day 6 : Andasibe : Explore Mantadia national park (Admire the famous Indri Indri lemur)

Day 7 : Andasibe : Visit the Analamazaotra special reserve 

Day 8 : Andasibe directly to Antsirabe

Day 9 : Antsirabe – Ranomafana

Day 10 : Ranomafana : Explore the national park of Ranomafana

Day 11 : Ranomafana : Second day of exploration

Day 12 : Ranomafana toward Ranohira

Day 13 : Ranohira : Visit the national park of Isalo

Day 14 : Ranohira – Sakaraha (Zombitse)

Day 15 : Sakaraha – Tuléar – Ifaty (before driving to Ifaty, you will first enjoy a guided exploration in the national park of Zombitse)

Day 16 : Ifaty : Visit the Reniala special reserve

Day 17 : Ifaty – Tuléar – Anakao – Tsimananpetsotsa 

Day 18 : Tsimananpetsotsa – Anakao - before being transferred to Anakao, this morning, you will first explore the national park where you will be able to see various bird species like : Flamingo, Greater Vasa Parrot, Madagascar Plover and many others

Day 19 : Anakao – Tuléar – Antananarivo 

Day 20 : Antananarivo – Departure (Depending on your departure flight time, if you wish, you can explore the capital city)
